Spring 2011 Prêt-à-Porter - The Youngsters

New York Fashion Week

HiT !
The Youngsters:

Phillip Lim

interview ; "Is that part of the skirt?"."Well, it's a dress here, and the apron goes on top. So it's, like, is it one piece? Two pieces? Three pieces? The apron really abstracts the negative space and changes the silhouette."

Puzzle-piece concept: Backless, side-less, and bottomless garments all somehow came together to form a full look. It was certainly an ambitious gambit, not easy to pull off, but it made for one of the best and most refined 3.1 collections to date.

THE WANG.Alexander

Did you notice anything?" asked Alexander Wang but then He paused a beat. "There's no black!". True indeed! The New York's prince of downtown darkness is turning toward the light. "I was looking for something optimistic," he said, "something pure."Its all about white looks .You can see that he's working a construction motif into these deconstructed looks: Coverall straps crisscrossed on the backs of loose, smocklike dresses; there were stiff canvas carpenter's jackets and pants, and industrial materials like Tyvek and what looked like silver insulation. White paint was in the models' hair, and the slashes of rose gold here and there were meant to evoke duct tape.

Project Runway Darling: Christian Siriano

It's the Project Runway winner's fifth collection. A certain sector of experienced showgoers might have been shocked by the mob scene at Christian Siriano. His Spring inspiration as a mélange of various cultures from places he hasn't been; A bit of African, a bit of Asian, a bit of Mediterranean-Greek. It has vague execution - an abstracted Indian temple print, a croc-patterned brocade safari suit. For the most part, the clothes were a catchall attempt at sophistication and glamour.
